Inusuale Sangiovese Bianco: a Tuscan Blanc de Noirs that challenges convention

In the heart of Tuscany, on the hills of San Miniato, Sangiovese can tell a different story.

Inusuale was born from this idea: taking one of Tuscany’s most iconic grape varieties and looking at it from a completely new perspective.

A white Sangiovese, a Tuscan Blanc de Noirs that preserves the identity of the grape while leaving its red color behind to express freshness, tension and brightness.

A Sangiovese that becomes white

Sangiovese is immediately associated with Tuscany’s great red wines. Inusuale, however, is produced through a white vinification of Sangiovese grapes.

After harvest, the grapes are gently pressed and the juice is quickly separated from the skins. The skins are where the pigments responsible for the red color are found.

By limiting their contact with the juice, we can obtain a surprisingly pale wine, allowing a completely different side of Sangiovese to emerge.

This is where the name Inusuale, meaning unusual, comes from. A wine that is familiar in its origin, yet unexpected in the glass.

Inusuale White Wine

Inusuale Sangiovese White shows a bright, clear and delicate lemon-yellow color.

On the nose, fresh notes of lemon, lime zest and grapefruit emerge first, followed by green apple, pear, gooseberry and delicate floral hints of acacia.

On the palate, it remains fresh and vibrant, supported by lively acidity and a medium body.

Citrus and white-fruit aromas return in the glass, accompanied by subtle floral notes and a balanced, persistent finish.

A different interpretation of Tuscany

Inusuale reflects the way we interpret wine at Inserrata.

We do not want to abandon tradition. We want to understand how far it can go.

Sangiovese remains deeply connected to Tuscan history and landscape. Vinifying it as a white wine means using that same heritage to tell a new story.

The result is an organic wine produced in San Miniato that brings together territory, experimentation and identity.

What to pair with Inusuale

Its freshness and acidity make Inusuale particularly versatile at the table.

It works very well as an aperitif, but also pairs beautifully with fish, shellfish, starters, vegetables and white meats.

Some of our favorite pairings include:

  • spaghetti alle vongole with parsley and lemon zest

  • citrus-marinated salmon carpaccio

  • grilled prawns

  • herb and lemon chicken

  • crostini with hummus and sun-dried tomatoes

  • mushroom risotto with pumpkin cream

Why Blanc de Noirs?

The French expression Blanc de Noirs, literally “white from black grapes”, refers to a white wine produced from red-skinned grapes.

It is a technique best known in the world of Champagne, but when applied to Sangiovese, it creates a particularly interesting contrast.

The grape that symbolizes Tuscan red wine becomes a white wine.

And it is precisely this contradiction that defines Inusuale.

Tradition and experimentation

At Inserrata, we farm organically on the hills of San Miniato, aiming to give each wine the space to express the place it comes from.

Inusuale is perhaps one of the clearest examples of this philosophy.

It was not created to turn Sangiovese into something it is not, but to reveal a side of the grape that usually remains hidden.

A Sangiovese without the red. A white wine that is deeply Tuscan. Inusuale.
