Where does the truffle hunt take place?
The truffle hunt takes place in the private woods of Inserrata estate, in the hills of San Miniato, in the province of Pisa.
The soil and woodland vegetation create a favourable environment for the symbiosis between trees and truffles. During the walk, the truffle hunter explains the role of host trees, the signs to look for in the soil and how the dog detects the presence of truffles.
The Lagotto dog is the true protagonist of the search. Its powerful sense of smell identifies the aroma of truffles beneath the soil, while the truffle hunter guides the dog and carefully extracts the truffle, respecting the woodland.
The experience is private and organised for only one group per day. This allows you to enjoy the truffle hunt at your own pace with family, your partner or friends.
Which truffle varieties can be found and when is the best time to visit?
The truffle variety depends on the season and the natural conditions of the woodland, so it is not possible to guarantee that a truffle will be found.
From October to December is the best period to search for the prized white truffle of San Miniato. Black truffles can be found in winter, marzuolo or bianchetto truffles in spring, and summer truffles, also known as scorzone, during the warmer months.
Each variety has different aromas and characteristics and is used in Tuscan cuisine with fresh pasta, eggs, crostini, meat and cheese.
November is a particularly interesting month to visit San Miniato thanks to the events dedicated to the white truffle.

Choose your Inserrata experience
You can choose between two private experiences in Inserrata’s woods. Both include an expert truffle hunter, a Lagotto dog, local products, organic EVO oil and three glasses of Inserrata organic wine.
The aperitif option lasts approximately three hours and includes truffle crostini, cheese and cured meats. The price is €125 per person, while the price for minors is €25.
The lunch or dinner option lasts approximately four hours and includes dishes prepared with fresh truffles, pasta, eggs, Tuscan bread, organic EVO oil and three Inserrata wines. The price is €200 per person, while the price for minors is €50.
