FAQ
Volterra
Volterra is one of the oldest cities in Tuscany, perched between the Val di Cecina and the hills of Pisa. Its Etruscan origins, when it was known as Velathri, are still visible today in the imposing city walls and the famous Porta all’Arco, symbols of a millennia-old past.
During Roman times the city maintained a strategic role, as shown by the Roman Theatre, while the Middle Ages left behind a compact and charming historic center dominated by Piazza dei Priori and the Palazzo dei Priori, the oldest town hall in the region.
Volterra is also famous for its alabaster craftsmanship, with historic artisan workshops that still tell the story of a unique Tuscan tradition. Less crowded than many other destinations, it is ideal for travelers seeking culture, authenticity and a slow, immersive experience in history and landscape.
